Montana Grizzlies Football Game

MISSOULA, Montana — The No. 2 Montana Grizzlies will try to achieve a 10-0 record this weekend as they host Eastern Washington University at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The game is set for Saturday, October 14, 2025.

The last meeting between the Grizzlies and the Eagles in Missoula was in 2022. Montana celebrated their first victory on the red turf in Cheney, Washington, last fall. Both teams have a history of classic matchups over the years.

Montana’s head coach Bobby Hauck acknowledged the rivalry, stating, “They’re a team that’s played really well lately, and we’re well aware of that. So they view this as a rivalry game. So we have to anticipate that again this week.”

Currently, Eastern Washington holds a 4-5 overall record and is 3-2 in Big Sky Conference play. The Eagles struggled at the start of the season, losing their first three games, but have since bounced back, winning three out of their last four games. Despite their recent form, a loss against Sacramento State last week has taken them out of playoff contention.

UM safety Micah Harper commented on the significance of playing against Eastern Washington, saying, “Joining the Griz is cool because it seems like every game in the Big Sky Conference is about rivalry or some kind of trophy. Just respect at the end of the day.”

Offensively, the Eagles rank near the bottom of the Big Sky in scoring and total yards, while their defense is also in the lower half of the rankings. This makes it essential for Montana to remain focused on their longtime rivals as they return home after two away games.

<p"It's been a really great season thus far," Harper added. "We got big goals and big aspirations. We're trying to win a championship here, two championships. And we're just excited to keep rolling and not let our foot get off the pedal."

UM tight end Evan Shafer expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming game, stating, “This is my fifth year playing college football. I kind of prefer not having a bye week. There’s no need to stop playing football when you can play it every weekend. It’s awesome. It’s a great place to play here. We got eight home games with the best fans in all of FCS football. And I can’t wait to keep it rolling.”
