Australia Breaks Gold Medal Record At Paris 2024 Olympics

Australia has officially reached its highest ever gold medal count in Olympic history, achieving 18 golds with four days of competition still left at the Paris Games.

The excitement peaked on Day 12 when Australian athletes secured a remarkable four gold medals in just a few hours, bringing the nation’s total gold count to an impressive 18, pulling ahead of the host country, France.

Matt Wearn started this incredible day by winning Australia’s 15th gold. His achievement was soon followed by Keegan Palmer’s dazzling performance in the men’s park skateboarding final, adding another gold to the tally.

The excitement continued when the team of Oliver Bleddyn, Sam Welsford, Conor Leahy, and Kelland O’Brien clinched victory in the men’s team pursuit, marking Australia’s first win in this event since the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Finally, the day concluded with Nina Kennedy’s triumphant gold medal win in the women’s pole vault, making it a historic moment as it was Australia’s first-ever gold in women’s field events.

The day prior, Arisa Trew, just 14 years old, had already contributed to the medal tally with a gold medal win of her own.

As it stands, the USA leads the medal count with 27 golds, closely followed by China with 25, while Australia is well positioned to potentially match its best-ever medal standing of third place, achieved in 1956 during the Melbourne Olympics.
