Brett Goldstein Takes on New Role in ‘Shrinking’ and Discusses Future of ‘Ted Lasso’
Actor Brett Goldstein, known for his role as Roy Kent in the Emmy-winning series ‘Ted Lasso,’ has embarked on a new and challenging role in the Apple TV+ show ‘Shrinking.’ In the second season of ‘Shrinking,’ Goldstein stars as the drunk driver responsible for the death of the main character Jimmy’s wife, played by Jason Segel.
Goldstein, who is also a co-creator of ‘Shrinking,’ delved deep into research to prepare for this complex and emotionally charged role. He read numerous accounts and listened to stories from individuals affected by similar tragedies to better understand the character’s perspective and the impact of such an event. This research helped him empathize with the character and bring a realistic portrayal to the screen.
In an interview with ‘CBS Mornings,’ Goldstein discussed the emotional toll of playing such a character, comparing it to experiencing PTSD and the repetitive nature of traumatic memories. He also shared a lighter side, expressing his discomfort with shaving his beard for the role, a change he found particularly difficult given his lifelong affinity for having a beard.
Beyond his new role in ‘Shrinking,’ Goldstein touched on the future of ‘Ted Lasso,’ though he did not reveal much. He humorously acknowledged rumors about upcoming seasons but left the details to speculation, even jokingly asking the ‘CBS Mornings’ co-host Gayle King if she had any insider information.
