Brooke Boney To Depart Today Show For Oxford University Pursuit

Brooke Boney, a well-known face on the Today show, has announced her upcoming departure post the Olympic Games this year—a move fuelled by a long-held ambition to pursue higher education at Oxford University.

The Gamilaroi journalist, who has been a prominent news presenter and entertainment reporter on the program for five years, will bid farewell to the show crew after the Paris Olympics in July and August. Her decision stems from securing a coveted spot at Oxford University to pursue a master’s degree in public policy.

Reflecting on her journey at Today, Boney expressed gratitude for the unforgettable experiences she’s had, reminiscing about encounters with stars like Jason Momoa and Dame Helen Mirren, and covering prestigious events such as the Oscars.

Starting her television journey as a political correspondent at SBS and NITV, Boney’s transition to Today in 2019 marked a significant career milestone. She also offered heartfelt appreciation for the behind-the-scenes team, acknowledging their pivotal role in the show’s success.

Expressing excitement about her academic endeavor at Oxford, Boney emphasized her commitment to utilizing her education to continue advocating for Indigenous communities. She underscored her eagerness to incorporate her newfound knowledge into her future work, hinting at a potential return to television post-education.

Steven Burling, the director of morning television at Nine, praised Boney’s contributions to the show and her decision to embark on this educational pursuit. He commended her journalistic skills, advocacy efforts, and camaraderie with the Today team, wishing her the best in her upcoming academic chapter.
