BYU Biotechnology Career Fair Draws Record Crowds and Industry Leaders
The College of Life Sciences at Brigham Young University (BYU) recently hosted a groundbreaking biotechnology career fair in collaboration with the BYU Chapter of BioHive Utah, attracting one of the largest turnouts ever witnessed at the Career and Experiential Learning Center.
The event, aimed at enlightening students about the multitude of career opportunities within the biotechnology sector while facilitating networking with industry professionals, saw bustling hallways on the fourth floor teeming with eager students vying for the attention of recruiters from some of Utah’s most rapidly expanding biotech companies.
Utah, a burgeoning hub for the biotech industry home to over one thousand life sciences companies and firms, provided the perfect backdrop for the event.
One student, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed their satisfaction with the fair’s tailored focus on biology, stating, ‘This event catered more to the life sciences field, offering opportunities that aligned closely with my interests. The recruiters were highly informed and had job postings readily available for us to explore.’
Representatives from various biotech firms were pleasantly surprised by the remarkable preparedness of BYU students for the opportunities presented. A recruiter from Wabash Biolabs commended the students, saying, ‘I’m amazed by the breadth of experience and knowledge possessed by these students. They have a clear sense of direction.’
Another recruiter, this time from Recursion, shared her excitement at the students’ passion and energy, highlighting the fact that many of them were already familiar with the company. She remarked, ‘The eagerness and knowledge demonstrated by these students is truly impressive. It’s not something I encounter frequently.’
The BYU BioHive chapter has been actively involved in fostering connections with biotechnology firms post the fair, organizing networking events and company visits to further engage students interested in the field. For students seeking to establish links with biotech companies, participation in BioHive’s activities proves to be a valuable opportunity.
