Carl Hoefkens Reflects on His Football Journey and Ambitions for the Future
Former football player and manager, Carl Hoefkens, recently reflected on his journey in the world of football and discussed his ambitions for the future.
Hoefkens, who played for several clubs during his career, including Club Brugge in Belgium, achieved significant success as a manager, leading the team to the knockout phase of the Champions League in 2022. He expressed his pride in guiding the club to such heights and highlighting the talent of academy graduates in the process.
Speaking of his playing days, Hoefkens fondly remembered his time in England, where he signed for Stoke City in 2005. Despite initially adapting to different playing styles under managers Johan Boskamp and Tony Pulis, he eventually moved to West Bromwich Albion, finding success under the guidance of Tony Mowbray and winning promotion to the Premier League.
In the Premier League, Hoefkens faced new challenges as an offensive right-back, but he embraced the experience and considered it a valuable learning opportunity for his coaching career.
After a recent managerial spell with Standard Liege, Hoefkens is currently without a club. Looking ahead, he expressed a strong desire to manage in English football, praising the passion and playing styles in the country. He also highlighted the success of Belgian coach Vincent Kompany, who achieved promotion to the Premier League with Burnley, further inspiring Hoefkens’ aspirations.
While open to opportunities outside of England, Hoefkens emphasized his interest in joining a club with a clear vision and a commitment to developing young players. He hopes to have the chance to implement his ideas and contribute to the growth of a team.
