Disney Launches ‘Paradise’ Across ABC, FX, and Hulu in Unprecedented Move
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Disney is making television history with the launch of “Paradise,” a new political thriller from “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman. The series will debut across multiple platforms, including Hulu, ABC, and FX, marking an unprecedented strategy for the entertainment giant.
The first three episodes of “Paradise” will premiere on Hulu on Jan. 28, 2025. The series will then expand to linear television, with the first episode airing on ABC on Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. ET and on FX on Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. ET. The remaining episodes will roll out weekly on Hulu.
This multi-platform launch is a first for Disney, showcasing the company’s ability to leverage its streaming services, broadcast network, and cable channels simultaneously. The move underscores Disney’s confidence in the series and its ambition to maximize viewership for high-profile projects.
“Paradise” is set in an affluent community populated by some of the world’s most influential figures. The tranquility of this idyllic setting is shattered by a shocking murder, triggering a high-stakes investigation. Sterling K. Brown, known for his role in “This Is Us,” stars as the head of security for a former president, played by James Marsden, who becomes a key figure in the unfolding mystery.
The series also features Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Aliyah Mastin, and Percy Daggs IV. Brown serves as an executive producer alongside Fogelman, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, John Hoberg, Jess Rostenthal, and Steve Beers. The show is produced by 20th Television.
Fogelman, who has a reputation for surprising viewers with his storytelling, has kept plot details under wraps. However, the series is expected to deliver the same emotional depth and intricate narratives that made “This Is Us” a cultural phenomenon. “Paradise” marks Brown’s return to television as a series regular following the conclusion of “This Is Us” in 2022.
Disney’s gamble on this multi-platform strategy reflects the evolving landscape of television, where streaming services and traditional networks increasingly collaborate to capture audiences. As the entertainment industry continues to adapt, “Paradise” could set a new standard for how major studios launch their most anticipated projects.
