Donald Trump Projected to Win North Carolina in 2024 Presidential Election
As of the latest updates, Donald Trump is projected to win the state of North Carolina in the 2024 presidential election. This outcome is consistent with recent polling data that showed Trump leading his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, by a narrow margin. According to CBS News, Trump was leading Harris by 2 percentage points, which is within the margin of error, but sufficient to project his victory in the state.
North Carolina, with its 16 electoral votes, has been a crucial battleground state in the presidential race. While Democrats have made significant efforts to win the state, having last succeeded in 2008 with Barack Obama, the margins by which Trump won in the last two elections have been relatively slim. However, this year’s election saw Trump maintaining his edge.
The state faced several challenges in the run-up to the election, including the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, which hit parts of Western North Carolina just weeks before the election. Despite the destruction and misinformation about the storm and election processes, early voter turnout in the affected regions was remarkably high, with 59 percent of registered voters casting their ballots before Election Day.
In addition to the presidential race, North Carolina also saw significant attention on other key races, including the gubernatorial contest between Republican Mark Robinson and Democrat Josh Stein, and the 1st Congressional District race where Republican Laurie Buckhout is challenging Democratic Rep. Don Davis.
Polling locations in North Carolina closed at 7:30 p.m. ET, and any voters in line at that time were allowed to cast their ballots.
