Draft Projections Vary for Ewers as NFL Talent Evaluators Weigh In

AUSTIN, Texas — With the 2025 NFL Draft fast approaching, projections and mock drafts are emerging, creating buzz around college prospects like quarterback Quinn Ewers. Once seen as a likely top selection, Ewers is now projected by some analysts, including ESPN’s Ben Solak, to be drafted on Day 3, potentially even in the sixth round.

Ewers, who played for the Texas Longhorns, began the season with expectations to solidify his spot as one of the first quarterbacks taken but saw his stock dip due to inconsistencies in his performance. Solak remarked, “The recruiting ranking was a product of Ewers’ live arm. He can generate velocity from various angles and has a quick release, but nothing else crystallized during his college career.”

Solak noted several concerns in Ewers’ game, stating he struggles with accuracy and defensive reads, indicating he remains a developmental prospect. “He has the physical tools but lacks many necessary skills to play the position reliably,” Solak added. Some analysts still consider Ewers a possible backup at the professional level, finding that a spot on a team like the Dallas Cowboys could emerge, where he might compete with recent acquisitions such as Joe Milton.

The Cowboys recently lost backup quarterback Cooper Rush to the Baltimore Ravens, heightening interest in adding depth at the position. While analysts project uncertainty around Ewers’ draft position, a selection at No. 211 with the Cowboys is still considered slim.

As the draft draws near, experts are also focused on other Texas Longhorns players. Chad Reuter has highlighted four Longhorns expected to be selected in the first round. The Arizona Cardinals reportedly eye offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. at number 13 overall, potentially acquiring the pick through trades.

Banks is viewed as an asset for protecting quarterback Kyler Murray, enhancing the team’s offensive line. Following Banks, defensive back Jahdae Barron is projected to be selected by the Miami Dolphins at 16. Barron gained recognition with a game-winning interception in the College Football Playoff, promising to bolster Miami’s secondary.

Wide receiver Matthew Golden also attracts attention, anticipated to be picked by the Buffalo Bills at 27, following an impressive college season nearly breaking 1,000 receiving yards. Golden’s speed was showcased at the NFL Combine, running a 4.29 in the 40-yard dash, making him a fit for the Bills, who seek an explosive downfield option.

Lastly, Isaiah Bond rounds out the first-round predictions by potentially joining the Los Angeles Rams. His speed and skill set, complemented by NFL experience from veteran players, position him well as he steps into professional football.
