Evenepoel Shines in Dauphiné Time Trial, Takes Yellow Jersey

Saint-Péray, France — Remco Evenepoel dominated the 17.4-kilometer time trial of the fourth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. The world champion posted a time that placed him 21 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, and 49 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogacar.
Evenepoel, riding for Soudal Quick-Step, showcased his speed, easily leading at the first checkpoint. The young Belgian, at 25 years old, finished the course strong, improving his time in the second half despite challenging windy conditions. He attributed his success to rigorous training in May and a healthier weight compared to last year.
“I’m lighter than I was at this time last year,” Evenepoel said after the race. “It helped me a lot today.” His performance secured him the yellow jersey from Ivan Romeo, who finished over a minute behind.
The event marked a disappointing day for Pogacar, who fell to eighth place after losing significant time. Meanwhile, Vingegaard remains close to the defending Olympic champion, sitting just 16 seconds behind Evenepoel.
Evenepoel’s victory also marked a milestone for Soudal Quick-Step, as it was the team’s 1,000th win. “I’m very proud of this achievement for Patrick Lefévère, who has done so much for this team,” Evenepoel added.
Florian Lipowitz from Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe finished fifth, making gains in the overall standings as he trails Evenepoel. Paul Seixas, an 18-year-old riding for Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale, surprised many by finishing in the top ten and now sits 11th in the general classification.
As the competition heads into the high mountains in the upcoming stages, the results from today set up an exciting showdown among the top cyclists.
