Higher Demand for A&E Services in Bradford and Keighley Over Bank Holiday Weekend

A surge in patients seeking treatment at Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments in Bradford and Keighley has prompted NHS officials to issue a warning about the unusually high demand. Both A&Es at Airedale Hospital and Bradford Royal Infirmary are experiencing a significant influx of patients, well beyond seasonal averages, according to the health service.

To manage the increased demand over the bank holiday weekend, the public has been urged by Dr. James Thomas from the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to contact 111 or visit the NHS’s 111 website before visiting a medical center.

Director for access to care at Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, Helen Farmer emphasized the importance of seeking guidance through the NHS system to access the appropriate care, ranging from speaking to a clinician to receiving advice on recovery methods.

For mental health support, individuals are advised to contact resources such as Guide-Line or utilize the dedicated crisis support helpline provided.

In a recent report, the significance of possessing ‘green skills’ in securing employment opportunities has been highlighted, with a 29% increase in hiring chances for individuals with such skills. The UK Government and organizations like Deloitte are stressing the need for a workforce transformation towards sustainability and environmental practices.

Higher education institutions like University of Leeds, Open University, and University of York are stepping up efforts to equip graduates with green skills through specialized programs focused on sustainability, net zero engineering, and climate-conscious education.

The IPCC warns of the urgent need to address sustainability challenges, highlighting the crucial role universities play in fostering green innovators and upskilling the current workforce to meet environmental demands.
