Netflix Thrillers Dominate Streaming Numbers in Mid-2024

LOS GATOS, Calif. — New viewership figures released by Netflix for the second half of 2024 reveal strong preferences among subscribers for thriller films, with some original productions breaking significant viewing records. Notably, the nail-biting holiday film titled ‘Operation Christmas‘ leading the pack, secured an impressive 137.3 million views, making it the platform’s most-watched movie in recent years.

Released just before the new year, ‘Operation Christmas,’ which stars Taron Edgerton, has resonated particularly well with audiences. Netflix confirmed that the film’s popularity has surpassed many other original films during a notably competitive holiday season.

In addition to ‘Operation Christmas,’ another production, ‘The Enigma,’ initially ranked as the fifth most-watched film on Netflix upon its release in January. Just weeks later, it climbed to third place with 169.2 million views, behind ‘The Ultimatum’ (171.4 million) and ‘True Justice’ (230.9 million).

According to a Netflix representative, “These numbers reflect our subscribers’ enthusiasm for original content, especially in the thriller genre. It seems that viewers are drawn to suspenseful storytelling that keeps them on the edge of their seats.”

The viewership surge comes amid a broader trend of audiences gravitating toward gripping narratives in an increasingly competitive streaming landscape. Netflix’s commitment to producing high-quality original films has paid off, with several thrillers emerging as fan favorites.
