Rare Hare Collection Launches 20-Year-Old Australian Single Malt in Collaboration with Hellyers Road Distillery

US-based Playboy Spirits, known for its unique spirits from around the world, has unveiled a new addition to its Rare Hare Collection – a 20-year-old Australian single malt whisky. This exclusive release, named The Tempest, was crafted in collaboration with Hellyers Road Distillery, one of Australia‘s oldest distilleries located on the picturesque island of Tasmania.

The Rare Hare Collection, which aims to introduce consumers to rare and exceptional spirits, ventures beyond the traditional whisky regions of Japan and Scotland to showcase the distinct flavors of Australia. The name ‘The Tempest’ draws inspiration from Shakespeare‘s work, symbolizing the power and finesse of nature as seen in Tasmania’s unique terroir.

Alex Moore, the master blender at Rare Hare Spirits, lauded The Tempest as a true representation of Tasmania’s climate, abundant sunshine, and low humidity. This whisky, he expressed, is a must-have for serious whisky enthusiasts and collectors, offering a truly distinctive drinking experience.

Hellyers Road Distillery took a unique approach in crafting The Tempest, opting for 17 years of aging in standard Bourbon casks, followed by an additional three years of maturation in Port casks. This deviation from the norm in Tasmanian whisky production sets The Tempest apart in terms of flavor complexity and depth.

With tasting notes that include hints of freshly baked biscotti, vanilla nougat, elderflower, and citrus marmalade, The Tempest promises a sophisticated and harmonious drinking experience. Bottled at 42% ABV, this limited edition whisky is available for purchase at $999 through Rare Hare Spirits’ online store and various retailers in Australia.
