Summer Heat Approaches Georgia with Scattered Storms Ahead

ATLANTA, Georgia — The final full workweek of spring has begun across Georgia, with the official start of summer just days away. On Saturday, June 21 at 4:42 a.m. EDT, summer will officially arrive, and with it, temperatures are already rising.
Weather forecasts indicate scattered showers and storms will continue through the evening, giving way to clouds and fog by Tuesday morning. Low temperatures will hover in the low 70s, while highs will rebound into the 80s with a few late-day storms.
Chief Meteorologist David Chandley from the FOX 5 Storm Team noted that heat and humidity are expected to increase significantly over the coming week. He mentioned, “It’s going to take most of the evening to get back down into the 70s by early in the morning, and there’ll be some patchy areas of fog.”
“Temperatures will make their way right back up well into the 80s. Come tomorrow afternoon, we start getting near that 90-degree mark again out towards Eatonton and Athens,” Chandley added. He warned that isolated storms are likely during the evenings, fueled by lingering heat and moisture.
According to forecasts, heat indices could reach between 98 and 104 degrees early next week, which may pose risks for sensitive groups and those working or exercising outdoors. Chandley cautions that, “Anytime we get one of these storms, watch out for some locally heavy rainfall.”
While the risk of widespread severe weather remains low, forecasters warn that stronger storms capable of heavy rainfall and gusty winds could occur, particularly during peak afternoon heating hours.
As summer approaches, the FOX 5 Storm Team urges residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and keep an eye on local forecasts for thunderstorm developments.
