Teenage Photographer Liz Hatton Dies at 17 After Inspiring Cancer Battle and Royal Encounter
Liz Hatton, a 17-year-old photographer from Harrogate, has passed away after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as desmoplastic small round cell tumour. Her journey and determination inspired many, including the Royal Family, after she was diagnosed in January and given a prognosis of between six months and three years to live.
Liz gained national attention for her photography bucket list, which she started after her diagnosis. One of the highlights of her list was meeting the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, at Windsor Castle in October. During this meeting, Liz was invited to take pictures of the Prince of Wales at an investiture, and she was pictured hugging Kate Middleton. The royal couple later praised Liz’s creativity and strength in a personal message on social media.
Aside from her royal encounter, Liz’s bucket list included photographing comedian Michael McIntyre, the red carpet at the MTV Europe Music Awards, the London Air Ambulances from a helipad, and participating in a fashion shoot led by acclaimed photographer Rankin. Her achievements and spirit have touched the hearts of many across the nation.
Liz’s mother, Vicky Roboyna, announced her daughter’s passing on social media, expressing immense pride in Liz’s kindness, empathy, and courage. She described Liz as “the best human and the most wonderful daughter and big sister we could ever have asked for.” Vicky has set up a JustGiving fundraising page with a goal of raising £100,000 to support research into desmoplastic small round cell tumours.
Prince William and Kate Middleton penned a moving tribute to Liz, describing her as “brave and humble.” They praised her for inspiring them with her creativity and strength, and thanked her for sharing her photos and story.
