A 17-year-old, Yura Varybrus, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of another teenager, Charlie Cosser, at a party in Warnham, West Sussex. The sentencing took place at Brighton Crown Court where Judge Christine Henson KC highlighted the severity of the crime, which has deeply affected the community.

Charlie Cosser was fatally stabbed three times in the chest during a crowded dance floor incident last July. The judge emphasized the tragic loss felt by Charlie‘s family and friends, stating that the impact is immeasurable.

Following the tragedy, Tara Cosser, Charlie‘s mother, spoke about the devastating impact on their lives. She mentioned that Charlie was looking forward to his groundsman apprenticeship and a holiday with friends before the incident occurred.

Charlie‘s family has since established Charlie’s Promise, a charity dedicated to combatting knife crime and raising awareness about its devastating consequences.

In court, defense lawyer Sarah Jones KC stated that Varybrus regrets his actions and wishes he could change the course of events that led to Charlie‘s death.

The trial revealed that a fight broke out at the party, leading to the fatal stabbing of Charlie Cosser. Witnesses reported seeing Varybrus covered in blood and admitting to the stabbing. Despite efforts to save Charlie, the injuries proved fatal.

The incident underscores the tragic consequences of youth violence and the devastating impact it has on families and communities. The memory of Charlie Cosser continues to live on through the efforts of his family and the charity they have founded.
