Tigers’ Carpenter Stepping Up Against White Sox in Game Finale

DETROIT — Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter will make a rare start against a left-handed pitcher today as the Tigers face the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park. The game starts at 1:40 p.m. EDT, wrapping up a three-game series between the two teams.
The Tigers, currently holding a record of 4-4, are looking to secure a winning series against the struggling White Sox, who sit at 2-6. With team dynamics shifting, this matchup marks an important opportunity for Detroit to gain momentum early in the season.
Carpenter’s inclusion in the starting lineup comes as outfielder Riley Greene sits out Sunday’s game. Greene has had a strong start to the season, hitting three home runs with an impressive 1.083 OPS in 36 plate appearances. However, management believes that giving him a day off will help preserve his performance over the long season ahead.
“It’s crucial to manage player workloads, especially early in the season,” Tigers Manager A.J. Hinch said. “Riley has shown incredible talent and power, but a break here will keep him fresh and ready for the games ahead.”
Filling in for Greene, Carpenter will face a formidable opponent in left-handed pitcher Martin Perez. Carpenter’s previous experience against lefties has been limited, making this start a notable one for his career progression. In addition, Manuel Margot joins the lineup, taking over the right field position for the day.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Carpenter stated. “Every game is an opportunity, and I’m ready to contribute to the team’s success.”
