Winona Ryder Expresses Concern Over Younger Actors’ Disinterest in Film
Winona Ryder, renowned for her extensive work in film, has recently voiced her concerns about the younger generation of actors and their apparent disinterest in the history and appreciation of cinema. During interviews promoting her role in Tim Burton‘s upcoming sequel, ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ the Oscar-nominated actress reflected on her experiences working with younger co-stars from projects such as ‘Stranger Things.’
Ryder expressed frustration upon noticing that many young actors do not share her enthusiasm for watching movies. In a candid moment, she recalled how some of her peers prioritize the duration of a film over its content, with their first question often being, ‘How long is it?’
She acknowledged the influential role social media plays in shaping the interests of younger individuals, humorously remarking on how this shift makes her feel like part of a bygone era. ‘I know I sound old,’ she stated, ‘but I wish the younger generation would study the rich history of film and photography.’
While Ryder did not explicitly name any young actors, similar sentiments were echoed earlier this year by ‘Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown, who admitted her lack of interest in watching films. Brown noted that she often feels overwhelmed by the time commitment associated with viewing movies, stating, ‘How long do I have to sit there for?’
Aside from her promotional activities for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ Ryder has dedicated a significant portion of her time to filming the final season of ‘Stranger Things.’ Reflecting on her decade-long involvement with the series, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside talented younger actors.
