Dodgers Face Bullpen Struggles Amid Trade Rumors

LOS ANGELES, California — The Los Angeles Dodgers are experiencing highs and lows this season, but their latest loss exposed a glaring weakness. After a solid outing from Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers blew their lead against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, conceding five runs in the eighth inning.
Relievers Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia struggled during the critical moments, leading to the defeat. With several pitchers on the injured list, the Dodgers have leaned heavily on their bullpen, and Scott’s recent performance has been particularly disappointing. The former All-Star joined the Dodgers on a $72 million deal but currently holds a troubling 4.62 ERA over 26 games.
“That was Scott’s fifth blown save already this season, the third in his past five appearances,” said Bill Plunkett, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Scott previously recorded six blown saves in 34 chances while playing for the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres.
As Scott continues to struggle with just weeks remaining before the trade deadline, the Dodgers may be exploring opportunities to reinforce their bullpen. Reports suggest a potential trade proposal involving Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran, who could be acquired in exchange for prospects Josue De Paula, Nick Frasso, and Landon Knack.
Duran’s impressive track record includes 23 saves in both of the last two seasons and a career ERA of 2.40. This season, he has achieved nine saves with a remarkable 1.07 ERA. If acquired, he would serve as a formidable addition alongside Evan Phillips and Brusdar Graterol, solidifying the backend of the Dodgers’ bullpen for their playoff aspirations.
“The cost is significant, but the Dodgers’ depth allows them to make such a move without mortgaging their future,” noted a source familiar with the discussions. While parting with De Paula would be a tough decision, securing Duran could provide the Dodgers with a reliable closer for years to come.
