Tennis Players Face Logo Rules at Roland-Garros 2025

PARIS, France — Tennis player Hailey Baptiste was almost disqualified from her match at Roland-Garros due to a logo on her headband that exceeded tournament regulations. The 23-year-old American, ranked 70th in the world, advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Spain’s Jessica Bouzas on Saturday.
While preparing for her match, Baptiste caught the attention of Brazilian umpire Aline Rocha, who pointed out that the logo of Baptiste’s equipment sponsor was too large, violating Grand Slam rules. Baptiste expressed surprise, as she had already competed in three matches wearing the same headband.
The situation escalated and required intervention from Denise Parnell, the tournament supervisor. After attempting to cover the logo with a marker, Baptiste faced delays before Parnell consented to allow her to keep the headband for that particular match, but she must find a replacement for future matches. “I’ll have to change for my next match,” she confirmed after her win.
Baptiste’s confusion arose from her previous participation in the Madrid and Rome tournaments, where the same regulations were not enforced. The discrepancy lies in the governing bodies; the Madrid and Rome events are regulated by the WTA, whereas the Grand Slams follow the ITF rules, which are stricter regarding logo sizes, stating they cannot exceed 13 centimeters.
Despite the wardrobe issue, Baptiste successfully joined seven other American players in the round of 16, marking the first time in 40 years such a large contingent has advanced this far in the tournament.
