Lamelo Ball Charlotte Hornets Trade Rumors

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Reports indicate that the Charlotte Hornets are not planning to trade star point guard LaMelo Ball, despite persistent calls from some media figures for the team to ship him to a playoff contender. This speculation comes after a series of injuries that have hindered Ball’s performance during his five seasons in the NBA.

Despite these injury concerns, which have raised questions about his long-term viability with the Hornets, the franchise seems reluctant to part ways with him. Trading Ball now may be the best opportunity for Charlotte to receive maximum value; however, with each injury, his trade value diminishes.

LaVar Ball, LaMelo’s father, has also entered the conversation, recently posting a video on Instagram responding to trade rumors. He suggested that the Los Angeles Clippers should pursue his son. “If you want a championship, listen to me! I’m making it very easy,” LaVar said. He believes a collaboration between LaMelo and his brother, Lonzo, could be beneficial. “Get Lonzo and Melo, and Gelo – can’t nobody beat my three boys playing fast,” he added.

As the 2025 NBA draft approaches, Charlotte holds the fourth, 33rd, and 34th overall picks. Instead of utilizing all three, the Hornets are likely to seek a trade to move back into the first round, potentially offering current players like Nick Smith Jr. as trade bait. If they choose a guard with their top pick, Smith’s future with the Hornets could be uncertain.

Additionally, the Hornets face a deadline with Josh Okogie‘s contract. If Okogie remains on the roster past July 1, his deal becomes fully guaranteed, and his skill set has reportedly drawn interest from teams like Boston and Phoenix.

Trade speculation regarding Lonzo Ball also links the Bulls guard to Charlotte, as his contract could make him a viable option if Chicago decides to rebuild. The Hornets may look to send players like Josh Green and Nick Smith Jr. along with future picks in exchange for Lonzo Ball.

With a young roster, Charlotte’s management is weighing their options carefully before making draft selections and potential trades that could shape the team’s future.
