James McAvoy’s Sequel Hopes for Wanted 2 Revived

LOS ANGELES, CA — A new update about the long-anticipated sequel to the 2008 action-thriller “Wanted” has reignited interest among fans. Co-writer Derek Haas confirmed in an interview that a completed script for “Wanted 2” exists and expressed his desire to reunite with the original team for the project.
During a chat while promoting his new Prime Video series “Countdown,” Haas reflected on the original film and shared his ongoing hopes for the sequel. “Michael Brandt and I wrote a script for it that I still think is pretty good,” he said. “And James McAvoy, come on back, let’s do Wesley again.” The film originally starred McAvoy as Wesley Gibson, alongside Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.
Despite the original film’s success and Universal‘s initial interest in a sequel as early as 2011, the project has faced numerous delays and has remained inactive for years. Haas emphasized the importance of keeping the door open for the sequel, stating, “Never say never in this town, that’s for sure.” His enthusiasm reminiscing about the making of the original movie indicates that he still believes in the potential of “Wanted 2”.
James McAvoy has shown some interest in reprising his role as Wesley Gibson. An interviewer noted that McAvoy had previously expressed his willingness to return to the franchise. However, it’s important to note that Universal has not yet officially revived the project, leaving its future uncertain.
While there are hopeful signs from Haas and McAvoy, the lack of movement from Universal means that, for now, “Wanted 2” remains in limbo. Next steps for the sequel are unclear, but fans continue to hold onto the possibility of seeing McAvoy return to his iconic role.
