Allegri Urges the Best from Federico Chiesa as Juventus’ Title Hopes Soar
Massimiliano Allegri insists Juventus need ‘the best Federico Chiesa‘ and claims he is not thinking about the title race, suggesting the Bianconeri must focus on one game at a time.
The Serie A giants secured a 3-0 victory over Fiorentina on Tuesday. Dusan Vlahovic bagged a brace in the first half, while Chiesa was introduced as a substitute from the bench in the second half and scored the third for Juventus in the dying minutes.
Juventus’ victory means they are now two points below table leaders Inter, so they can leapfrog the Nerazzurri with an away win at Lecce next weekend as Simone Inzaghi‘s men will be busy in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana, so they won’t play in Serie A.
Juventus have won 15 league games out of 20 this season, drawing four and losing once in the reverse fixture against the Neroverdi in September 2023.
Football Italia was among the accredited media at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday and attended Allegri’s post-match presser.
Allegri discussed various topics, but the three most relevant talking points were the title race, Juventus’ reserves, and the contribution of Chiesa and the team’s strikers.
When asked about the title race, Allegri downplayed the significance and stated, ‘I am not accustomed to thinking about these things. We have to play against Lecce. It will be a complicated game because they don’t concede many goals and they’ll play at home. We must think about that game and then focus on Atalanta. We must be serene and enjoy this victory. From tomorrow, we’ll think about Lecce. This must be the norm.’
Regarding Juventus’ reserves, Allegri praised their performance, saying, ‘The only thing we have to do now is to remain with our feet on the ground and take a step at a time. Those who entered from the bench did well. Milik‘s pressing was crucial to scoring the third goal. We must continue with this spirit that has helped us earn 49 points.’
Speaking specifically about Federico Chiesa, Allegri expressed his satisfaction with the player’s physical condition and emphasized the importance of having him perform at his best, stating, ‘Chiesa feels well physically, and I am really happy because we need the best Chiesa.’ The coach also acknowledged the promising performances of Yildiz, a young player who showcased excellent technique.
