Angelo Mathews Dismissed In Bizarre Fashion As Sri Lanka Dominate Test Against Afghanistan

Sri Lanka‘s veteran batter Angelo Mathews found himself at the center of yet another bizarre dismissal during the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Colombo. Mathews, who had previously been dismissed in a unique manner during the ODI World Cup, once again left the home crowd in disbelief with his strange exit.

After showcasing his experience and skill with the bat, Mathews crafted an impressive knock of 141 runs, anchoring the Sri Lankan batting lineup in challenging conditions at the P. Sara Oval. His partnership with Dinesh Chandimal played a crucial role in guiding Sri Lanka to a commanding position in the Test match.

However, Mathews’ innings came to an end in a manner that did not do justice to his valiant efforts. In the final delivery of the day’s play, Mathews attempted a wild sweep shot to a delivery from Qais Ahmed that was bowled way down the leg. Unfortunately, his bat ended up hitting the stumps after the wild hoick, resulting in a hit-wicket dismissal.

This dismissal brought back memories of Mathews’ timed-out dismissal in the ODI World Cup last year, where he became the first player to be dismissed in such a manner at the international level.

Despite Mathews’ bizarre exit, Sri Lanka dominated the Test match against Afghanistan. Dinesh Chandimal also contributed with a century, forming a record-breaking partnership with Mathews. Sri Lanka ended day two with a lead of 212 runs and four wickets in hand.

The match continued to showcase Sri Lanka’s experience and skill, with their batsmen effectively handling the Afghan bowling attack. The duo of Mathews and Chandimal demonstrated their ability to navigate challenging situations and set the foundation for a strong team performance.

This Test match against Afghanistan holds significance as both teams strive to leave their mark in international cricket. Sri Lanka’s dominant position provides an opportunity for the team to boost their confidence and build momentum.
