Australia is all set to send its largest gymnastics team ever to the Paris 2024 Olympics! The 13-member squad features a record 11 women and two men, showcasing the country’s commitment to the sport.

The team will compete in various gymnastics disciplines, including artistic, trampoline, and rhythmic events. Six Australians are gearing up for action in both rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, while just one will take the stage for trampoline gymnastics.

Among the returning athletes are Tokyo Olympians Lidiia Iakovleva and Emily Whitehead. Lidiia will participate in the rhythmic gymnastics events, while Emily is set to compete in artistic gymnastics, marking their second Olympic Summer Games.

Younger talent is also making waves, as Brock Batty prepares to become the youngest male gymnast in the Olympics, competing in trampoline gymnastics at just 17 years and 211 days old. Jesse Moore will be the only other male gymnast representing Australia.

Unfortunately, not all athletes could make the cut. Blake Rutherford, who ranked highest among Australian male gymnasts in the trampoline qualifying, missed out due to injury. Likewise, Commonwealth Games champion Georgia Godwin, a two-time World Cup silver medallist, ruled herself out after suffering an Achilles injury in May.

The gymnastics competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place at two different venues. Rhythmic gymnastics will unfold between August 8 and 11 at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena. Meanwhile, artistic gymnastics is scheduled from July 27 to August 5 at Bercy Arena, which will also host trampoline gymnastics on August 3.

Australia has only achieved one Olympic medal in gymnastics, a silver won by Ji Wallace in the men’s trampoline event at the Sydney 2000 Games.
