Baltimore Braces for Early Winter Weather: Snow, Cold, and Wind Expected
Baltimore and surrounding areas are preparing for an early taste of winter weather, with forecasts indicating the possibility of snowflakes as early as Friday, November 22. Scattered rain and snow showers are expected for the rest of the week, particularly in areas north and west of Baltimore, although no significant accumulation is anticipated.
Western Maryland is expected to experience more severe winter storm conditions from Thursday through Saturday, with predictions of 6 to 12 inches of blowing and drifting snow. This region is likely to see the most impactful winter weather during this period.
Temperatures in Baltimore will drop significantly by the end of the week. After a warm start to the week with highs in the upper 60s, temperatures will plummet to the low 50s by Friday, with overnight lows dipping into the low and mid 30s. This cold snap increases the chance for brief wet snowflakes on Thursday night and Friday morning.
The city is also preparing for extreme cold, with Baltimore City having declared a Code Blue Extreme Cold Season through March 2025. This alert is issued when cold weather conditions pose a risk to public safety, prompting city agencies to take protective measures and advising residents to stock up on essentials and prepare for potential disruptions.
In addition to the cold, residents should be prepared for windy conditions. A cold front is expected to bring strong winds with gusts of 25-35 mph, contributing to a wind chill in the 20s and 30s by the weekend.
While the immediate forecast is chilly, temperatures are expected to return to more normal levels by the weekend, with highs in the low 60s and a drier, cooler weekend ahead).
