Bayanda Walaza Excited To Return To School After Olympic Silver

South African sprinter Bayanda Walaza is buzzing with excitement after winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 18-year-old, who is still a Grade 12 learner, was part of the South African 4 x 100 meters relay team that clinched the impressive medal.

After his incredible win, Bayanda said, “It’s kinda scary I don’t wanna lie. I know this time when I go back to school, everyone will scream. I just have to adjust to it.”

His teammates, including Shaun Maswanganyi, Bradley Nkoana, and Akani Simbine, also celebrated the momentous occasion, flashing the South African flag and trending on social media.

Reports say that Bayanda is studying at Curro Hazeldean in Pretoria. He was officially named in the South African Olympic team back in June.

Earlier this year, Walaza became the fastest teenager in the world after running the 100 meters in a stunning 10.13 seconds and a solid 20.34 seconds in the 200 meters at the South African Junior Championships.

His impressive skills have earned him a scholarship at Curro, where he continues to juggle his studies and athletic dreams.

It’s heartwarming to know that Bayanda’s school had even raised funds to support his high school coach at the Olympics, showing the inspiring community spirit behind this young athlete’s journey.
