Australia has secured a thrilling victory in the T20 series decider against South Africa, led by an outstanding knock from opener Beth Mooney. The match, held in Hobart, saw Australia chase down South Africa’s total of 162 with five wickets in hand and four balls to spare. Mooney’s innings of 82 runs off 55 balls proved to be the difference, as she displayed excellent strokeplay and composure throughout the innings. She hit 11 fours and one six, showcasing her ability to find the boundaries.

Mooney’s partners fell at regular intervals, but she remained unfazed and continued to score runs. Sadly, she was dismissed in the 18th over, leaving her team needing 14 runs from 14 balls. However, Ash Gardner (26 not out from 17 deliveries) held her nerve and hit the winning boundary to seal the victory for Australia.

South Africa had set a formidable target earlier in the match, posting their highest T20 score against Australia. Marizanne Kapp was the standout performer for South Africa, scoring a career-best 75 runs off just 48 balls. She formed a crucial partnership of 80 runs with Anneke Bosch, which helped South Africa recover from a shaky start. However, their efforts were not enough to secure a victory.

Australia’s Grace Harris had a significant impact in the match, taking two catches and running out Sune Luus with a direct hit. Chloe Tryon also contributed with a quickfire 26 runs from 16 balls before being dismissed by spinner Georgia Wareham. Nadine de Klerk also played some aggressive strokes at the end of the innings, finishing with an unbeaten 20 runs off 11 balls.

In terms of bowling, Georgia Wareham was the most economical bowler for Australia, conceding only 25 runs from her four overs. Darcie Brown, who was brought back into the team after sitting out the last match, endured a difficult spell, conceding 27 runs from just two overs.

This victory was particularly crucial for Australia after suffering a shock loss to South Africa in the previous match. The two teams had reached a 1-1 tie in the series, making this decider a thrilling contest.

Following the T20 series, the focus now shifts to the ODI leg of the multi-format series between Australia and South Africa. Australia holds a 4-2 points advantage going into the first ODI in Adelaide, making it a crucial match for both teams.
