Bill Murray’s Former New York Home Hits the Market, and Other Recent Highlights
Bill Murray, the renowned actor known for his iconic roles in films like “Ghostbusters” and “Lost in Translation,” has been in the news recently for several interesting developments. One of the most notable is the listing of his former New York home, located in the exclusive and celebrity-loved enclave of Snedens Landing, for $3.695 million.
The property, known as the Yellow House due to its brightly painted exterior, was built by Murray and his then-wife, Margaret “Mickey” Kelly, in 1986 on the site of a 19th-century barn. The Colonial-style residence, designed by the architecture firm Shope Reno Wharton, features 5,177 square feet of living space, five bedrooms, and four and a half bathrooms. The home includes a chef’s kitchen with an original 19th-century wood-burning fireplace, a formal dining room, and a spacious primary suite. The property also boasts a freestanding two-car garage with an office/studio space above and is situated on 3.92 acres of land.
In addition to the real estate news, Bill Murray has also been making headlines for his unorthodox approach to managing his acting career. Unlike many Hollywood stars, Murray does not have a manager or agent and instead uses an unlisted 1-800 phone number for potential casting calls. This method, while freeing up his personal time, has sometimes led to missed opportunities, such as his failure to secure the role in the 1988 film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” a part that ultimately went to Bob Hoskins. Murray has expressed regret over missing this opportunity, which he only learned about years later.
Murray’s private and down-to-earth lifestyle, despite his fame, continues to fascinate fans. He has been married twice and has six children, and his career spans over five decades with a wide range of roles that showcase his versatility as an actor.
