Atlanta Braves Outfielder Jurickson Profar Suspension News

ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves are exploring trade options to fill the void left by outfielder Jurickson Profar, who received an 80-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy. Profar’s suspension will also disqualify him from participating in the postseason if the Braves manage to turn their season around.

FanSided’s Jacob Mountz recently suggested that the Braves consider a trade for injured Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sánchez as a potential replacement for Profar. Mountz highlighted Sánchez’s impressive exit velocities and contact quality, despite his less-than-ideal overall results. In 2024, Sánchez posted a batting line of .252/.313/.417 with 18 home runs in 489 at-bats.

“Sánchez frequently makes hard contact, which is valuable,” Mountz stated. “His left-handed bat could enhance the Braves’ lineup, although his strikeout total has hindered his ability to maintain an ideal on-base percentage.” Mountz believes that if the Braves can address Sánchez’s strikeout issues, he might develop into a more formidable slugger.

In addition to his power potential, Sánchez’s speed also stands out. He successfully stole 16 bases in 18 attempts last season, showcasing a knack for base stealing that could benefit the Braves immensely. Given the Miami Marlins’ struggles in the National League, it is likely that key players, including Sánchez, will be made available as the trade deadline approaches.

“Of all the options, Sánchez might be one of the more underrated players in the market,” Mountz noted. “The Marlins have him under team control for a few more years, but his current injury situation may keep him below the radar.”

The Braves, facing uncertainty with Profar’s absence, would significantly benefit from acquiring Sánchez. His potential to develop into a player capable of 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases per season makes the possibility enticing. If Sánchez can return from injury and find his groove, he might emerge as a crucial asset for Atlanta’s playoff aspirations.
