Coco Gauff and Madison Keys Battle in French Open Quarterfinal

PARIS, France — Coco Gauff faced off against Madison Keys in an all-American quarterfinal match at the 2025 French Open on June 4. Gauff, seeded second, won the second set 6-4, leveling the match after losing the first set in a tiebreak.
The match saw both players struggle to find their rhythm at times, with neither showcasing their best tennis early on. Both American hopefuls are competing for a spot in the semifinals at Roland Garros, where they aim to keep the U.S. flag flying in women’s singles.
In another match on day 11, French wildcard Loïs Boisson was set to meet 18-year-old rising star Mirra Andreeva, seeded sixth. On the men’s side, Jannik Sinner, the top seed, was playing Alexander Bublik, followed by Novak Djokovic against Alexander Zverev.
Back in the women’s match, Gauff demonstrated improved serving in the second set, reducing her number of double faults, which had plagued her earlier. Fans inside Court Philippe-Chatrier were treated to thrilling exchanges, especially during the intense games on Keys’ serve.
Keys had initially led the match, taking the first set 7-6(6). However, Gauff’s momentum shifted in the second as she took control of several rallies to break Keys’ serve.
“Every point counts here, especially in a Grand Slam quarterfinal,” Gauff said after her second-set victory. “I tried to focus on my service game and limit my mistakes to give myself the best chance.”
Both players battled fiercely, exchanging breaks and showcasing powerful shots, but as the third set began, spectators anticipated an exhilarating finish. The winner will earn a spot in the semifinals, one victory away from competing for the championship.
This match is emblematic of the high stakes and fierce competition that characterize the French Open, as Gauff and Keys vie for glory in the clay season.
