US Congress Holds Hearing on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth
The U.S. House of Representatives‘ Committee on Oversight and Accountability held a hearing titled “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth” on November 13, 2024. The hearing, conducted at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington D.C., aimed to shed more light on the U.S. government’s research and findings related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), often referred to as UFOs[4].
The hearing was led by Representatives Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.), who emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the government’s handling of UAP information. They stated that “the American people are tired of the obfuscation and refusal to release information by the federal government” and that Americans deserve to know what the government has learned about UAP sightings and any potential threats they pose[4].
Expert witnesses included Luis Elizondo, a former counterintelligence officer who has long claimed that the U.S. government is hiding knowledge of UAP, including materials recovered from crashed flying saucers. Elizondo also discussed his claims of U.S. programs involving individuals with psychic powers for “remote viewing” and his recent controversy over a photo he claimed was a “mothership” UFO, which was later identified as a lamp reflection[4].
Other speakers at the hearing included Tim Gallaudet, a retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, who discussed the security implications of unidentified submersible objects, and journalist Michael Shellenberger, who also alleged that the U.S. government is hiding evidence of UFO crash retrievals. Former NASA Associate Administrator of Space Policy and Partnerships Michael Gold, a member of NASA’s independent UAP study team, was also present[4].
The hearing examined the U.S. Department of Defense’s classification policies regarding UAP and sought ways to better inform the American public on this topic. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson‘s recent remarks were referenced, noting that while the NASA independent study team found no evidence of extraterrestrial origin for UAP sightings, there is still much to be learned about these phenomena[4].
