Jasmine Crockett Democratic National Convention Speech

At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, from Dallas, took a strong stand against former President Donald Trump, labeling him a “career criminal.” While contrasting their backgrounds, she highlighted Vice President Kamala Harris’ successful career as a prosecutor.

Crockett humorously noted, “One candidate worked at McDonald’s, while she was in college… The other was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and helped his daddy in the family business: Housing discrimination.” The crowd erupted with laughter at her remarks about Trump’s legal troubles, calling attention to his multiple felony charges and impeachments.

The freshman congresswoman also emphasized Harris’ qualifications, saying, “Kamala Harris has a résumé. Donald Trump has a rap sheet.” She drew a vivid picture of the contrasting lives they lead, especially with Harris presiding over the Senate while Trump is entangled in legal issues.

Crockett reflected on her personal experience with Harris, recalling a touching moment when the Vice President comforted her during an uncertain time in Congress. “When I first got to Congress, I wasn’t sure I made the right decision,” she shared, holding back tears. “The most powerful woman in the world wiped my tears and listened.”

During her speech, she also mentioned her viral clashes with Republican lawmakers, including U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. In light-hearted fashion, Crockett said, “The question before us is, will a vindictive, vile villain violate voters’ vision for a better America or not?” leaving the audience laughing once again.

Other Texans at the convention included Lina Hidalgo and Amanda Zurawski, who both spoke on important issues related to climate change and reproductive rights, respectively. Zurawski highlighted her struggles with Texas’ abortion laws, advocating for women’s rights and safe healthcare.

Crockett shared the spotlight with big names in the Democratic Party, including President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton praised Harris for breaking barriers as a woman in politics, while Harris made a surprise appearance, tying her speech to the next generation of leaders.
