Debutants Shine In Power's Dominant Victory Over Eagles

Port Adelaide‘s new leadership duo, Connor Rozee and Zak Butters, showcased their prowess in a commanding 50-point triumph over West Coast at Adelaide Oval. Rozee and Butters, alongside their midfield companions Jason Horne-Francis, Willem Drew, and Ollie Wines, orchestrated a dominant performance that overwhelmed the Eagles in the season opener for both clubs.

In a star-studded lineup, Port’s recruits Ivan Soldo, Esava Ratugolea, and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher also made notable contributions, solidifying their positions in the team. West Coast’s highly anticipated No.1 pick, Harley Reid, made a promising debut for the Eagles, displaying glimpses of his potential with an energetic performance.

The first quarter saw Port Adelaide edge ahead 3.6 to 3.1, with Charlie Dixon‘s dominance instrumental in their early lead. Dixon, alongside Soldo, continued to excel in the second quarter, with a four-goal burst breaking the game open and establishing a commanding advantage for the Power.

Despite a brief resurgence by the Eagles in the third quarter, spearheaded by Jack Darling and Liam Duggan, Port Adelaide maintained control and surged ahead with goals from Rozee and Drew. However, the quarter was marred by a collision that left Port’s Jed McEntee sidelined due to concussion.

Port Adelaide’s home crowd of 34,078 witnessed a clinical display from the Power, who outscored the visitors five goals to three in the final quarter to secure a convincing victory. The debutants, led by Harley Reid for West Coast, showcased their potential in a thrilling season opener.
