Sydney FC began their AFC Champions League 2 campaign with an impressive 5-0 victory over Hong Kong’s Eastern SC at Jubilee Stadium. Brazilian international Douglas Costa played a key role in the team’s success, contributing significantly in his debut match. The victory puts Sydney FC at the top of Group E, which also includes teams like Kaya FC and Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

The match was a showcase of Sydney FC’s dominance, particularly in the second half. Anas Ouahim scored twice, with other goals coming from Rhyan Grant and two deflected own goals by Eastern SC. The first goal was initiated by Costa, whose pass enabled Grant to assist Ouahim for a goal.

Another standout moment occurred when Costa delivered a short corner to Rhyan Grant just before halftime, allowing Grant to double the score. The Brazilian continued to impact the game significantly, assisting once more as Patryk Klimala set up Ouahim’s second goal.

Eastern SC faced intense pressure throughout the match, leading to own goals by defenders Daniel Almazan and Leung Chun Pong. Despite a few early attempts by Eastern SC, including a notable save by goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares, Sydney FC’s defense remained strong.

Following the match, Sydney FC’s coach Ufuk Talay expressed satisfaction with the result, noting the team’s control and ability to exploit Eastern SC’s defensive setup. Meanwhile, Douglas Costa acknowledged his need for fitness improvement but was delighted with the team’s performance.

Sydney FC will next face Kaya FC in the Philippines, continuing their campaign in the AFC Champions League 2.
