In a thrilling conclusion to the 18th and final round of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, Irish team Munster clinched the top spot on the log, while the Vodacom Bulls and DHL Stormers secured their spots in the quarterfinals. However, it was heartbreak for the Emirates Lions as they narrowly missed out on a quarterfinal spot despite a hard-fought match against the Stormers.

The competition came down to the wire, with all URC teams vying for the top eight positions and the coveted Investec Champions’ Cup berths, leading to a tense and exciting final round of matches.

The Emirates Lions, although initially looking set for the eighth spot, were edged out by Welsh side Ospreys, who secured a crucial bonus point in their last game against Cardiff, drawing level with the Lions and ultimately overtaking them based on wins.

The Vodacom Bulls claimed a vital win over their opponents in Durban, with hooker Akker van der Merwe scoring two late tries to secure a bonus point and maintain their second-place finish. Meanwhile, Munster’s comeback victory over Ulster propelled them to the top of the log, setting up an intriguing set of quarterfinal matchups.

With Munster facing Ospreys in the first quarterfinal and Benetton earning a showdown with the Bulls after a significant win over Edinburgh, the stage is set for thrilling knockout encounters in the URC.

Leinster, looking to bounce back from their recent Champions Cup final defeat to Toulouse, will take on Ulster at the Aviva Stadium in another quarterfinal clash, while Franco Smith’s Glasgow Warriors will face the Stormers in Scotland, aiming to continue their impressive form in the tournament.
