NEW ORLEANS, La. — Former NFL stars Drew Brees and Rob Gronkowski, who never shared the field during their playing careers, have joined forces for a unique partnership ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The duo is collaborating with Bounty for the Wingman campaign, celebrating the city’s role as host of the big game.

Gronkowski, the former New England Patriots tight end, tapped Brees, a New Orleans Saints legend, to guide him through the city. “I needed a guy that could show me around. Who’s better than Drew Brees? He’s the mayor of New Orleans,” Gronkowski told Billboard. Brees, who led the Saints to a Super Bowl victory in 2010, emphasized the city’s unique appeal. “This is the 11th Super Bowl in New Orleans — the most of any city. There’s a reason they keep going back,” Brees said. “It’s the greatest place to host the biggest event in all of sports.”

The partnership comes as the NFL playoffs heat up, with both Brees and Gronkowski making their Super Bowl predictions. Gronkowski picked the Detroit Lions to face the Buffalo Bills, with the Lions ultimately lifting the Lombardi Trophy. Brees agreed on the matchup but believes the Bills will emerge victorious. “I think it’s Buffalo’s year to get over the hump,” Brees said.

Beyond football, the two shared insights into their pregame rituals and music preferences. Gronkowski revealed his go-to pump-up song was Flo Rida’s “My House,” while Brees leaned on Dr. Dre and Eminem’s “Forgot About Dre.” Brees also admitted he was unaware of Eminem name-dropping him in a 2020 song. “I probably don’t know what you’re talking about,” Brees said, prompting laughter from Gronkowski.

Both players reflected on their favorite Super Bowl halftime shows, with Gronkowski praising Bruno Mars and Brees highlighting Usher and Beyoncé’s performances. They also weighed in on Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming halftime show in New Orleans, with Brees hoping for a surprise appearance by Lil Wayne, a New Orleans native.

As the NFL playoffs continue, Brees and Gronkowski remain connected to the game through their partnership and shared love for football. “When you have a successful career, all that hard work and dedication pays off,” Gronkowski said. “It means you had a legacy out on the field, and people still love to hear about you.”
