FLORA DUFFY STADIUM, BermudaDwight Yorke, a legendary figure in football and coach of Trinidad & Tobago, is determined to lead his team to a much-needed victory against Bermuda in the World Cup qualifier tonight at 7 p.m.

Trinidad has faced struggles in their qualifying campaign, managing only one point from two matches. They began with a goalless draw against Curaçao and followed with a 2-0 loss to Jamaica. The team is looking to turn their season around with a solid performance against Bermuda.

“Bermuda is known for being tough competitors,” Yorke said in an interview with The Royal Gazette. “They have the advantage of playing at home, so we need to bring our best game to win.”

Yorke, who made a memorable appearance for Trinidad in the 2006 World Cup, emphasized the need for his players to maintain a positive mindset. “We respect Bermuda, and we must not underestimate them. However, we are focused on claiming the three points we need to get back on track,” he added.

With four games to go in the qualifying round, Yorke recognizes the urgency for his team to capitalize on their opportunities. “Our first two games didn’t go the way we wanted, but now we look ahead,” he said. “We need to focus on the match against Bermuda.”

Kobi Henry, a defender for Trinidad who spent part of his childhood in Bermuda, also shared his excitement about returning to the island. “I haven’t been here in a long time, but it’s special to play in a place where I have memories,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bermuda’s coach Michael Findlay stated that a win is crucial for his team. After two losses, the team is eager to secure points. “It’s do or die for us. We must win to keep our chances alive,” he told The Royal Gazette.

Findlay acknowledged the importance of the home crowd, hoping for a turnout similar to the match against Jamaica that drew over 4,000 fans. “Support from the community is vital to energize our players,” Findlay added.

As both teams prepare for what promises to be a difficult battle, the outcome could significantly impact their chances for progressing in the World Cup qualifiers. Each team aims for a win, making this match one of high stakes for both sides.
