Elderly Man Shot in Sydney Office Building, Alleged Shooter in Custody
An elderly man in his 70s was shot in the groin at an office building on Castlereagh Street in Sydney‘s city center. The alleged shooter, also in his 70s, has been apprehended and is currently in custody. The incident, described as isolated by New South Wales police, is not believed to be linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Reports of the shooting prompted a swift response from emergency services, who found the injured man at the scene. He was promptly treated by paramedics before being transported to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Speaking to the media outside the building, Det Insp David El-Badawi stated that only one bullet was discharged from a small calibre semi-automatic pistol inside the premises. Contrary to initial reports of multiple casualties, only one person was found to have been shot.
The crime scene is being meticulously processed, with authorities confirming no ongoing threat to public safety. Inspector Dominic Wong from NSW Ambulance noted that the victim was stable with no active bleeding before being taken to the hospital.
Witnesses, including Cassie Economides and Rochelle Connell, recounted the scene as emergency vehicles descended on the area. The alleged shooter was detained by staff inside the building, with firefighters from the neighboring station also providing assistance.
As investigations continue, police are yet to establish the nature of the relationship between the two elderly men involved in the shooting. However, they have ruled out any gang-related motives, emphasizing the incident’s isolated nature.
