The Paris Olympics 2024 has kicked off with excitement as the world’s finest athletes compete not just for personal medals, but also for national pride. As the action unfolds, fans are eager to see which country will dominate the medal count this year.

With the event only just beginning, Team USA and Team France are neck-and-neck when it comes to medals. The excitement ramped up as the U.S. pulled ahead on Monday thanks to impressive performances in skateboarding, swimming, and men’s gymnastics.

On Tuesday, Team USA made history by snagging its first-ever rugby medal during the bronze medal match against Australia. This is particularly significant as it marks the first rugby medal for the U.S. since they won gold back in 1924, which was also in Paris.

As of now, the U.S. has the largest delegation in the games with 594 athletes, closely followed by France’s 571. Japan is also showing strong performance, leading the gold medals count by Tuesday with seven golds, aided by their men’s gymnastics team and an unexpected victory from skateboarder Yoto Horigome.

China is not far behind, sitting in second place for gold medals with six. The host country, France, is showcasing diverse talents, medaling across eight different sports by the end of the day.

The U.S. is hoping to replicate its incredible success from the previous Olympics in Tokyo, where they bagged 113 medals, leading the overall count significantly over China, which collected 89 medals.

It’s worth noting that Russia, a dominant force in past Olympics, is not participating this year due to ongoing sanctions. Athletes from Russia and Belarus can only compete as “Individual Neutral Athletes” and their medals won’t be counted towards their home countries.

Meanwhile, for India, Day 5 promises action with no medal matches scheduled, but notable players like PV Sindhu and Lovlina Borgohain are expected to shine. Sindhu will compete in badminton, while Borgohain aims to reach the quarterfinals in boxing.

Other Indian competitors include Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy in men’s singles badminton, Aishwary Pratap Singh and Swapnil Kusale in shooting, and Deepika Kumari in archery. Fans are eager to catch these athletes in action and cheer them on from home.
