Female Bull Rider From Canada Takes On The World Finals In Texas

Almost a year ago, Samantha Gibson, a 26-year-old resident of Chesterville, found herself in a challenging period looking for empowerment and confidence.

Gibson, originally from Ottawa, decided to explore the unconventional sport of bull riding after a friend’s recommendation.

In March, Gibson will be competing in the prestigious Elite Lady Bull Riders World Finals in Beaumont, Texas, alongside two other Canadians from Toronto.

Her journey into bull riding began in Picton, where she took a weekend class after her initial experience on a mechanical bull at Crazy Horse Stonegrill Steakhouse and Saloon.

Gibson, a health care worker, has endured multiple injuries including a fractured chest plate and torn ligaments during her bull riding endeavors.

She has participated in numerous rides, estimated to be around 60 to 70 times, across various locations including rodeos in New York and Georgia.

Gibson’s dedication to the sport stems from her drive to push herself physically and mentally, aiming for consistency and success in each ride.

Despite the physical challenges and risks, Gibson remains focused on improving her skills and mastering the art of bull riding.

Jason Terpstra, the owner of Country Xtreme Bulls in Picton, described Gibson as a passionate rider but emphasized the need for more experience to excel in the sport.

While bull riding is traditionally male-dominated, Gibson has found camaraderie and support among fellow female riders in the community.

As she prepares for the upcoming World Finals in Texas, Gibson remains determined to showcase her skills and make her mark on the bull riding circuit.
