Ford Recalls Nearly 274,000 SUVs Over Brake Function Issues

NEW YORK — Ford is recalling nearly 274,000 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs in the U.S. due to a potential brake function loss, increasing the risk of crashes. The recall affects vehicles from model years 2022 to 2024.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the front brake lines in these SUVs may come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, posing a risk of brake fluid leaks and loss of braking capacity. Specifically, the recall includes 223,315 Expeditions and 50,474 Navigators.
Ford estimates that only about 1% of the recalled vehicles are likely to have this defect. Although the company is not aware of any related injuries or accidents, 45 reports of front brake line leaks were documented as of April 17, according to NHTSA records.
As a remedy, Ford dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and, if necessary, replace the front brake line or engine air cleaner outlet pipe at no charge. Notifications to dealers started Wednesday, and owner letters are expected to be mailed between May 26 and May 30.
Drivers can check if their vehicle is affected by visiting the NHTSA website or Ford’s recall lookup. The recall number is 25S47. Those impacted may notice increased pedal travel, indicating the brakes will require more force to engage. If a brake line is leaking, fluid levels may drop, triggering the red brake warning light.
A Ford spokesperson declined to provide further comments when contacted by The Associated Press.
