Independiente Boston River Copa Sudamericana Match

AVELLANEDA, Argentina – Independiente and Boston River battled to a 0-0 stalemate during their Copa Sudamericana group stage match on April 8, 2025, at the Estadio Libertadores de América. This draw comes after Independiente’s recent defeat against Nacional Potosí in an earlier match.

Kickoff for the match occurred at 7 p.m. local time, with both teams aiming to secure their first points in the tournament. Independiente, having lost their opening game, had hoped to turn the tide playing on home soil. The team was led by captain Rodrigo Rey, and coached by Julio César Vaccari.

Although the match ended in a draw, the game provided several scoring opportunities. In the 29th minute, a header from Independiente’s Lucas Avalos marked their first clear chance. Independiente maintained a significant edge in ball possession throughout the first half, accumulating roughly 61% compared to Boston River’s 39%.

As the match progressed, Independiente managed a total of seven shots, while Boston River generated three attempts on goal. The teams exhibited contrasting styles of play, with Independiente attempting to steer the match in their favor through aggressive offensive maneuvers.

The tactical battle extended into the midfield, where passes were key for both sides. Independiente registered a total of 177 passes, dominating possession metrics, while Boston River completed 100 passes.

Despite the statistical advantage, Independiente struggled to convert chances into goals. The game featured numerous corner kicks for both teams, with Santiago Montiel and Luciano Cabral taking key set-pieces for Independiente.

“We need to be more decisive in the final third,” Vaccari remarked after the match, emphasizing the need for improvement ahead of their next game.

The match was officiated by Bruno Arleu de Araujo, who maintained control amid a heated contest. As the whistle blew to signal the end of the match, both teams walked away with a point, keeping their hopes alive in the group.

Looking ahead, Independiente will focus on regrouping before their next challenge, which will be crucial for their aspiration to advance in the tournament.
