India Dominates Bangladesh to Reach Women’s Asia Cup Final
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s cricket team continued their impressive form in the Women's Asia Cup 2024, crushing Bangladesh by 10 wickets at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on July 26. With this victory, India secured a spot in their ninth final of the tournament.
Bangladesh, led by Nigar Sultana, elected to bat first after winning the toss. However, they struggled against India’s relentless bowling attack, managing to score only 80 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Renuka Thakur was the star for India, taking three wickets while conceding just 10 runs in her four overs.
In pursuit of this modest target, India made quick work of the chase, finishing at 81 runs without losing a wicket in just 11 overs. Smriti Mandhana shone with the bat, scoring a brilliant half-century to guide her team home comfortably.
Nigar Sultana, Bangladesh’s captain, fought valiantly for her side, scoring 32 runs. However, regular wickets fell at the other end, severely restricting Bangladesh’s scoring opportunities and putting them under immense pressure throughout the innings.
India’s performance in this semi-final showed their dominance in Asian cricket as they look forward to their next challenge. Fans eagerly await who will emerge as their opponents in the final of this highly competitive tournament.
