Jason Kelce Braves Freezing Temps to Support Brother Travis at Chiefs Playoff Game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jason Kelce, the Philadelphia Eagles‘ star center, arrived at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday to support his brother, Travis Kelce, as the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Houston Texans in a pivotal NFL Divisional Round playoff game. With wind chill temperatures hovering around 0 degrees Fahrenheit, the elder Kelce braved the freezing conditions to cheer on his sibling.
Jason Kelce, dressed in a red-and-black lumberjack coat and matching winter hat, was seen strolling into the stadium with a hot cup of coffee, seemingly unfazed by the cold. He joined ESPN‘s pregame show as an analyst, adding to the excitement of the highly anticipated matchup. ‘Are y’all okay?’ ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith quipped from the warmth of the indoors. ‘How are y’all hanging in that COLD? I’m watching and praying for y’all…….in warmer weather, of course. Enjoy.’
Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ star tight end, also had another high-profile supporter in attendance: pop superstar Taylor Swift. The couple arrived later than most fans, who had begun gathering at the stadium as early as Friday night. Chiefs Kingdom, as the team’s loyal fanbase is known, turned the game into a day-long celebration despite the frigid weather.
By Saturday morning, temperatures had risen slightly to 19 degrees Fahrenheit, but wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph made it feel much colder. ‘Fire’s getting ready for the brats already,’ one Chiefs fan told a reporter while lifting the helmet-shaped lid of his grill. Fans lined up outside the stadium gates more than eight hours before the 3:30 p.m. local time kickoff, showcasing their dedication to the team.
This level of fan enthusiasm has become a January tradition in Kansas City. The Chiefs have not lost a home playoff game since the AFC Championship in January 2022, when they fell to the Cincinnati Bengals. ‘I’m so KC, I woke up EARLY knowing that #ChiefsKingdom was already waiting outside the Arrowhead gates,’ one fan wrote on X. ‘#tradition.’
As the game approached, the atmosphere at Arrowhead Stadium was electric, with fans undeterred by the harsh weather. The Kelce brothers, along with Swift and thousands of Chiefs supporters, were ready to witness what they hoped would be another step toward a Super Bowl appearance.
