Jerry Mack, a veteran collegiate coach with 20 years of experience, has been appointed as the second football head coach in Kennesaw State University‘s history. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Milton Overton on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Mack brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the running backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the University of Tennessee.
Mack’s coaching career is marked by significant achievements, including five conference championships and a proven track record of developing productive offensive schemes. During his tenure at Tennessee, the Vols set multiple offensive records in 2021, including ranking seventh nationally in scoring offense and ninth in total offense. Under his guidance, players such as Jabari Small, Len’Neth Whitehead, and Jaylen Wright achieved notable success, with Small leading the team in rushing and Whitehead and Wright earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
Before joining Tennessee, Mack had stints as a coach at Jackson State and Delta State. At Jackson State, he helped the team capture the SWAC championship title in 2007. His coaching career began as an offensive graduate assistant at Delta State, where he contributed to the team’s ranking third in NCAA Division II in scoring offense and total offense.
Mack played collegiate football at Jackson State before transferring to Arkansas State, where he lettered for three years and earned a bachelor’s degree in management information systems. He also holds a master’s degree from Delta State. Mack is known for his ability to connect with players and his relentless recruiting mindset, qualities that align with the strategic direction of Kennesaw State’s football program.
An introductory event for Coach Mack is scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m. and will be streamed live on KSUOwls.com. Mack and his wife, Starlett, have two sons, Jaden and Jaxon, and one daughter, Skyler.
