Jordan Henderson Set to Join Steven Gerrard at Rangers

GLASGOW, Scotland — Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is expected to join Steven Gerrard‘s coaching staff at Rangers FC following a disappointing season at Ajax. Reports suggest Henderson’s transition into coaching comes after Ajax faltered in their bid for the Eredivisie title, losing out to rivals PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the season.
Henderson, 34, was pivotal for Ajax, making 45 appearances this season, but the club’s ongoing financial struggles may prompt them to part ways with their captain. Speculation about a move to Rangers gained momentum after Henderson’s potential switch to AS Monaco fell through earlier this year.
His former teammate, Steven Gerrard, is expected to return to the Ibrox dugout after a stint with Al-Ettifaq. Sources indicate that Gerrard plans to appoint Henderson as a player-coach, allowing him to assist Gerrard while continuing to play.
“I think it’s an exciting opportunity for both,” said Jim White, a presenter on talkSPORT. “The relationship they built at Liverpool makes this a feasible reunion.” Henderson and Gerrard shared the pitch at Liverpool for several seasons and won numerous titles, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
Gerrard’s return comes at a crucial time for Rangers, who are looking to reclaim their dominance in Scottish football after Gerrard previously broke Celtic‘s championship streak. However, the club faces challenges, including a need for significant investment in new players.
“The squad needs strengthening, especially to match Celtic,” notes football analyst Danny Murphy. “Gerrard knows the league and what it takes to succeed here.”
As Henderson looks forward to this new chapter, his contract with Ajax runs until June 2026, and it remains to be seen how a move to Rangers will impact his playing career.
