Kathryn Bryce and Liam Dawson Honored at Professional Cricket Association Awards
The Professional Cricket Association (PCA) recently celebrated the achievements of standout cricket players at its annual awards ceremony, recognizing the exceptional performances of Liam Dawson and Kathryn Bryce among others. These accolades highlight the successes of both athletes in domestic cricket over the past year.
Liam Dawson, representing Hampshire, received the prestigious Men’s Player of the Year award. He has had an impressive season, taking 71 wickets and scoring 1,280 runs across all formats. His efforts contributed to Hampshire’s strong finish in the County Championship Division One, where they secured second place and advanced to the One-Day Cup quarter-finals. Dawson’s accolade follows in the footsteps of renowned players like Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, with the award being decided by peer votes. “I was very surprised but I am delighted,” said Dawson, highlighting the honor of receiving recognition from peer professionals.
On the women’s side, Kathryn Bryce, a standout for Derbyshire, has been named the Women’s Player of the Year. Her impressive season included accumulating 1,650 runs and claiming 51 wickets. She was the leading run-scorer in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, propelling her team, The Blaze, to victory. Additionally, Bryce played a pivotal role in Scotland‘s qualification for their first Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates. “It’s a massive honor to win this trophy,” Bryce stated, expressing her gratitude for the recognition from fellow players.
In addition to being named PCA Women’s Player of the Year, Bryce was also recognized as the Women’s Domestic Overall MVP and the Charlotte Edwards Cup Player of the Year. She served as the captain of the PCA Women’s Team of the Year and made history as the first non-Englishwoman to win the award, joining the ranks of previous winners such as Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Other awardees at the PCA ceremony included Jamie Smith, named Men’s Young Player of the Year, and Ryana MacDonald-Gay, recognized as Women’s Young Player of the Year. James Anderson was honored with an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Special Merit award.
