Kaua‘i District Health Office Celebrates National Public Health Week With Open House Event

The Kaua‘i District Health Office (KDHO) is gearing up to host an engaging open house event on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their location on 3040 Umi St. in Līhuʻe, Hawaiʻi. The event is set to coincide with National Public Health Week and is aimed at raising awareness about public health initiatives and encouraging community involvement.

National Public Health Week, organized by the American Public Health Association (APHA), is an annual event observed during the first week of April across the United States. The theme for this year is “Protecting, Connecting, and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,” highlighting the collective efforts needed to improve overall public health.

Dr. Janet Berreman, the Kaua‘i District Health Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming open house, stating that it presents an opportunity for community members to engage with the Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) staff. She emphasized the importance of showcasing the various programs and resources available to address public health challenges and promote well-being.

Attendees at the open house will have the chance to interact with DOH professionals from different departments, including vector control, community health workers, public health nurses, epidemiologists, and mental health experts. The event will also feature insights into public health career paths and educational opportunities in the field.

The KDHO team is eager to welcome visitors and express gratitude to the community and partners for their continued support in enhancing the health and prosperity of Kaua‘i. By fostering a collaborative environment and fostering public health awareness, the district aims to create a healthier and more resilient community for the future.
