Kawhi Leonard Shines in Return as Clippers Dominate Nets
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Kawhi Leonard made a triumphant return to form Wednesday night, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to a historic 59-point victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Leonard scored 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting in just 24 minutes, marking his most impactful performance since returning from injury earlier this month.
The Clippers’ win was their largest margin of victory in franchise history, with Leonard posting a career-high +46 plus-minus rating. Despite his limited minutes, Leonard’s presence on the court energized the team, particularly during a second-quarter stretch where he led the second unit.
“No, I’m not surprised,” Leonard said after the game. “I work hard every day and I love this game. I put in my repetitions. So things like this aren’t a surprise for me.”
Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue confirmed Leonard would not play in Thursday’s back-to-back game against the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the team’s injury management plan. Leonard has played just four games this season as he works to regain full conditioning.
Teammates praised Leonard’s gradual return to form. “Kawhi is one of the best players in the league,” center Ivica Zubac said. “When he gets his legs under him and rhythm, he’s going to be really good.”
The Clippers face injury concerns beyond Leonard. James Harden (illness), Norman Powell (back), Ivica Zubac (back), and Kris Dunn (knee) are all questionable for Thursday’s game. Powell, averaging 24 points per game while shooting 45% from three-point range, has been a key contributor during Leonard’s absence.
Despite the roster challenges, the Clippers remain in playoff contention in the competitive Western Conference. Leonard’s continued progress could prove pivotal as the team looks to make a deep postseason run.
